In 1851, the Rev. H. Schwan brought the first lighted Christmas tree in the United States into Zion Lutheran Church in Cleveland, to a very mixed review.  For several years, Hope has been commemorating this event by making edible ornaments for the animals at Lakeview Cemetery and decorating a tree at the graveside.
